The 2013 Masters Tournament will be known for many exciting events to include an incredible win for Australia's Adam Scott. But not even Adam's victory will overshadow the unbelievable events that began the week kicking off the Masters. In an effort to promote the interest and participation in golf, the Masters Tournament Foundation, PGA of America and the United States Golf Association have announced a collaborative event called the DRIVE, CHIP & PUTT CHAMPIONSHIP. Patterned after the NFL's Punt, Pass & Kick the event is designed for boys and girls aged 7-15.
Tucson Country Club has been approved as one of ten sites in Arizona to conduct the first stages of the Drive, Chip & Putt Championship with the Regional Finals held at the Grayhawk Golf Club later this summer. Competitors will consist of boys and girls ages 7-15 (based upon age on April 6, 2014) competing in each of four boys and four girls divisions (6-9, 10-11, 12-13 & 14-15). Those that advance from the Tucson site will compete in Scottsdale with the winners of regional qualifying to compete at Augusta National Golf Club the Sunday (April 6, 2014) prior to the Masters.
Tucson Country Club will host approximately 150-200 juniors from the Tucson community on Saturday, June 1st beginning at 1:00 p.m. Junior golfers are encouraged to register for this event nolater than Tuesday, April 30th.
If any juniors are interested in registering on your own please go to www.drivechipandputt.com to register, and make sure you click on SOUTHWEST as your qualifying region. If you need assistance please call the Golf Shop at 298-6769.
This will be an exciting event and we will be looking for approximately 30 volunteers for the day, so if you are interested in volunteering please let us know and we would be proud to have you apart of this inaugural event. The approximate start time will be 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon with regular membership play beginning with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun. TCC President Duane Froeschle stated, "A junior event of this stature held at Tucson Country Club only adds to the history of who and what we stand for in our community and in the game of golf. As previous host site for two USGA National Championships, and numerous other prestigious events we are proud to partner with the Masters Tournament Foundation, PGA of America, and the United States Golf Association on such an important event."
More information will be forwarded to the membership as the event draws closer, and we hope everyone is as excited as we are to host so many wonderful junior golfers from within our community. Reminder for ALL TCC JUNIORS to register on the site listed above or call the Golf Shop for assistance NLT Tuesday, April 30th.
