On this day 10 years ago, former NFL player and Army Ranger Pat Tillman was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan.
After 9/11, Tillman turned down a multi-million dollar contract offer from the Arizona Cardinals to join the Army.
Three Army Rangers thought they were firing on the enemy when he was shot. A base in Afghanistan is named after him. And his widow has since established a foundation in his name that awards scholarships to veterans.
The 10th annual Pat's Run happens this Saturday in Tempe.
