PHOENIX - Phoenix police say they have arrested a 19-year-old man in the case of a 13-year-old girl who died in a house fire.
Sgt. Tommy Thompson said in a statement released Saturday that Tashawn Treyvon Cheatham is in custody at the Maricopa County Jail. He faces charges of first-degree murder, arson and theft.
Police say Cheatham is a family friend of Briana Naylor, who died Thursday after a suspicious fire at her Phoenix home. Her mother had reported her as a runaway hours earlier.
Firefighters found the girl with burns in a bedroom.
Police say the theft charge against Cheatham stems from the theft of the Naylor's family dog, which was taken and sold.
A call to police was not immediately answered. It was not clear whether Cheatham had a lawyer.
