307 lbs. of pot seized, 2 Mexican teens arrested

DOUGLAS, AZ - Two Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico teens were arrested in separate incidents Saturday for attempting to smuggle more than 307 pounds of marijuana through the Port of Douglas.

In the first incident, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred a 16-year-old male for an additional inspection of the Chevrolet truck he was driving. Officers searching the vehicle located 15 packages of marijuana throughout the vehicle, with a total weight of nearly 241 pounds. The drugs, exceeding $120,000 in value, and vehicle were seized.

A short time earlier, officers referred a 16-year-old male for an additional inspection of the Ford sedan he was driving. After a narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs, officers retrieved 74 packages of marijuana, with a combined weight of nearly 67 pounds, from throughout the vehicle. The drugs, valued at more than $33,000, and vehicle were seized.

Both teens were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
