$5K reward offered for Ariz burros' fatal shooting

PHOENIX (AP) - A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for fatally shooting two wild burros northwest of Phoenix.

The burros' carcasses were found west of Castle Hot Springs Road in the Bureau of Land Management's Lake Pleasant Herd Management Area on Jan. 26.

The BLM is investigating the incident.

The Humane Society of the United States is offering the $5,000 reward to help find the perpetrators.

Wild burros and horses are protected under the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971.

BLM officials say those found responsible for the fatal shootings could be get up to a year in prison and-or a $2,000 fine.
