MARANA, Ariz. - An elevator system malfunction may have caused the automatic smoke alarm to activate at the La Quinta Inn and Suites near I-10 and Cortaro.
Northwest Fire crews responded to the hotel around 4:30pm Saturday.
Emergency dispatchers indicated that there was the smell of smoke, a haze and alarms activated on the 3rd floor of the hotel.
Firefighters evacuated 6 guests on the third floor.
They spent an hour searching the entire building and determined the source of the alarm may have been a malfunction with the elevator.
The evaluator remains out of service.
The hotel will work with repair contractor to make the necessary repairs.
