TUCSON - In 59 years of the gem show there has never been a guide quite like the free smart phone app developed by a Tucsonan with a love for the country's biggest gem show.
"They are really interesting to go to. There are so many different things that one can see. It's a great place to take the kids," said Dennis Keys, creator of the app.
The app allows you to scroll through the 42 shows. When you click on a particular show details come up including dates and times. A free shuttle service will be provided again this year. The app also has all of those times.
"It's free to the public. It runs from 7am to 6pm. It links various parking facilities with at least 24 of the gem shows. It runs generally from the 22nd and I-10 area to Oracle north of Drachman," said Donovan Durband with ParkWise.
Perhaps the coolest feature if you are interested in finding a specific gem, your iphone or android will direct you right to it.
"it's just an alphabetical search. you tap on a particular letter and it will take you to that series of gem stones and then you just swipe your finger up and down and scroll through the list of gems and find dealers that deal in that specific gem," said Keys.
The app also supports local restaurants by listing their locations in proximity to different exhibits. Some even have coupons linked to the app. Search for the free app, ‘Tucson Gem Shows,' in your app store.
