Accenture Match Play field is set

MARANA - The stage is set for next week's World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship, with the field finalized as of 5 p.m. ET today. Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Luke Donald and Justin Rose, Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 5, respectively, in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), lead the list of those who qualified for and committed to the Accenture Match Play Championship. The 2013 brackets and tee times will be unveiled on Sunday night, with the brackets/seeding based on the OWGR released following the conclusion of the Northern Trust Open.

The first World Golf Championships event of the 2013 season returns to The Golf Club at Dove Mountain, in Marana, Ariz., February 18-24. The 32 First Round matches begin Wednesday, February 20, with Hunter Mahan (No. 26) looking to defend his title and retain the Walter Hagen Cup.

Brandt Sndeker (No. 4) and Phil Mickelson (No. 10) are not in the Accenture Match Play Championship field and are replaced by Shane Lowry (No. 65) and Fredrik Jacobson (No. 66), respectively. Snedeker withdrew from the field on Tuesday due to sore ribs after playing in five of the first six events of the PGA TOUR season, while Mickelson is not competing due to scheduled family obligations.
Ireland's Lowry earns a spot in the field for the first time and will be making only his fourth-career start in a World Golf Championships event. Jacobson, of Sweden, will make his fourth Accenture Match Play Championship start.

The players committed to the field are listed below. In the event a player withdraws from the Accenture Match Play Championship before the brackets are released on Sunday night, the next player in the Official World Golf Ranking gains entry into the field and the brackets are re-ordered. If a player withdraws after the brackets are released, the next player on the alternate list takes his place in the bracket. The next three players in the Official World Golf Ranking (as of February 11) are: Bernd Wiesberger (No. 67; AUT); Anders Hansen (No. 69, DEN); Scott Jamieson (No. 70, SCO). Spain's Miguel A. Jimenez (No. 68) is recovering from a broken leg.
A total of 43 international players are among the field of 64, representing 16 countries. South Africa leads the way with seven players. England and Sweden follow with six and five players, respectively. Next are Australia (4), Scotland (3), Spain (3), Germany (2), Denmark (2), Ireland (2), Italy (2), Northern Ireland (2) and Belgium, Japan, Korea, Thailand and Wales with one each.
The Accenture Match Play Championship will once again feature "Follow the Leaders," a program that gives fans an opportunity to fall in behind the Championship Match and follow the players down each fairway until the 2013 champion is decided. "Follow the Leaders" will give fans the unique chance to experience the crowd, walk the fairways and view the greens from a player's perspective. All Sunday ticket holders will be invited to "Follow the Leaders" at the Accenture Match Play Championship, the only official match-play event on the PGA TOUR schedule.

The Accenture Match Play Championship, which is the first in a series of four World Golf Championships events in 2013, has been played in the Tucson area since 2007 and at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain since 2009.
