Alcohol a factor in deadly Northwest side rollover

TUCSON - Alcohol is a factor in Pima County's first deadly accident of the New Year, resulting in the arrest of the driver.

Just after midnight this morning, the Pima County Sheriff's Department received a report of a single vehicle rollover at La Cholla Boulevard and Magee Road. Deputies with the Sheriff's Foothills District responded and found a Honda Accord with two people inside had rolled over. The passenger of the car was declared dead on scene.

Investigators with the Sheriff's Traffic Unit responded and determined that the car was travelling through a new loop that is currently still under construction and the driver lost control due to high speed. The car then rolled and came to a final rest on the shoulder of the road. The driver was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment of his injuries. Alcohol is considered a factor in this incident.

The passenger who died has been identified as 32-year-old Ricardo R. Perez.
After treatment at the hospital, the driver, 32-year-old Justin Michael Kitts was released and taken into custody by deputies. Kitts was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center on a charge of Second Degree Murder.
The investigation continues.
