TUCSON - University of Arizona baseball coach Andy Lopez announced Friday he has added two assistants to the Wildcat's coaching staff. Brock Ungricht and Shelley Duncan will join the Bat Cats as an assistant and undergrad assistant, respectively.
Ungricht, recent on the staff at Stanford University, worked with the Cardinal catchers and hitters. He will take on the same responsibilities in Tucson. Ungricht helped lead the Cardinal to the NCAA Super Regionals in three of the past four years. He played three seasons at San Diego State, including an All-American freshman campaign for former head coach Tony Gwynn.
"I am really excited to welcome Brock to our staff," Lopez said. "He fits everything I was looking for in the position. His high school and college coaching experience give him strong ties in this part of the country, especially within the Pac-12 Conference."
Duncan, who recently retired from a career in the majors, is Arizona's all-time leader in home runs. He totalled 55 home runs and 186 RBI's from 1999-2001. A grad of Canyon del Oro High School, Duncan will work with the outfielders and hitters while he finishes his college degree.
"Shelley is a great addition to our staff," Lopez said. "He brings tremendous experience as an accomplished Major Leaguer, and he has remained very close to our program since finishing his own outstanding college career."
