PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) - Northern Arizona authorities say a Cottonwood man is accused of threatening three people at a supermarket with the store's meat cleaver.
Prescott Valley police said Tuesday that 34-year-old Jason R. Thrift is being held at Yavapai County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, threatening and intimidating, disorderly conduct and shoplifting.
Police responded to a report of a man running through the supermarket's parking lot with a meat clever around 4 p.m. Monday.
Two store employees say Thrift approached them with the meat tenderizer and raised it in a threatening manner.
He reportedly told the employees that he would hurt them if they didn't give him back his wife and 18-month-old child.
They say Thrift made references to his spouse being kept in an open area above the dairy section.
