SIERRA VISTA - Authorities are awaiting results of an autopsy report on the death of a man found with a backpack containing two state-protected rattlesnakes.
The Cochise County Sheriff's Office says 57-year-old Daniel Genaro's body was found in rugged terrain near Parker Canyon Lake.
The Sierra Vista Herald (http://bit.ly/16Jco7Q) reports that the two ridgenosed rattlesnakes in the backpack were dead when Genaro's body was found Saturday. The snake is the state reptile of Arizona.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Carol Capas says the office will wait for autopsy results before determining whether further investigation is needed.
Capas says Genaro's family had reported him missing Friday and that he had a history of medical issues.
Arizona Game and Fish Department spokesman Mark Hart says trade in the snakes is illegal but that there is some poaching.
