Arizona auditor reports excessive travel spending

PHOENIX (AP) - Auditors report that officials with the Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and the Blind spent nearly $10,000 in excessive or inappropriate travel expenses during a 33-month period that ended earlier this year.

The Auditor General's Office says many of the expenses by Superintendent Robert Hill lacked documentation required under state policies.

According to the office's report, inappropriate expenses included extra nights on trips and renting a car and paying hundreds of dollars for parking on a trip when a hotel shuttle was available.

The auditors are recommending that school officials improve their procedures.

Acting Superintendent Bill Koehler says the school is scheduling training for its employees.
