Avra Valley Fire responds to fire in 'no mans land'

PICACHO, Ariz - Avra Valley Fire responded to a call eight miles outside their normal range to help with a house fire in Picacho early Sunday morning.

According to Patrick Calhoun with Arva Valley Fire, Pinal County Sheriff's Deputies requested assistance to extinguish the fire, since Picacho is a 'no mans land' for fire coverage.

When Avra Valley Fire arrived, they found the home, two travel trailers and a car on fire. Two engines, along with two water tenders were able to bring the fire under control.

Investigators believe the fire started in one of the travel trailers after an occupant turned on a space heater.

No injuries were reported.

Damage is estimated at $225,000.
