As Arizona basketball coach Sean Miller continues to re-establish the Wildcats as one of the elite programs of college hoops, he's also bringing heftier competition to McKale Center and beyond.
Today, it's being announced, that the U of A will begin a "home and home" series against national power UCONN, beginning in 2017-2018.
In year one, Arizona will host the Huskies at McKale Center. The following year, during the 2018-2019 season, the Cats will travel to UCONN.
Connecticut is a perfect 5-0 all-time against Arizona
If you're wondering, the last time the two teams faced off was in 2011, with a trip to the Final Four on the line. UCONN knocked off the Wildcats in Anaheim 65-63 in an Elite 8 showdown. The Huskies eventually won the national championship game.
UConn's other games against the Wildcats have taken place in 1999-2000 in the Great Eight Basketball Classic in Chicago's United Center, in 2000-01 at Gampel Pavilion, in 2001-02 in Tucson, and in 2005-06 at the Maui Invitational in Lahaina, Hawaii.
