MESA, AZ - A wandering black bear has been tranquilized and hauled off to a safe spot after the animal wandered into a remote part of Mesa near an elementary school.
Wildlife World Zoo and Aquarium director Gray Stafford says the young bear was most likely coming down from the high country after a winter's hibernation and was looking for food.
The bear was spotted near Sousa Elementary School Tuesday night. Mesa police say they were called out to keep curious onlookers at bay.
They say they used sirens and spotlights to corral the animal until Fame and Fish officers arrived to sedate the bear and move it elsewhere.
