TUCSON - A man dubbed "The Montego Bay Robber" is behind bars in Tucson.
The U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force arrested 37-year-old Anthony Vera last week. He'd been on the run since last month when investigators say he robbed the Montego Bay Casino in Wendover, Nevada.
Investigators say two armed, masked robbers walk into the casino, jumped over the counter at a cashier's cage and took $90,000.
The men fled and got into a high speed chase. Vera was tracked to Tucson. Daniel Leyva, Deputy U.S. Marshal, says he was arrested here because his girlfriend lives here. "Information was shared and distributed to our task force here."
The task force served two search warrants after the arrest. They seized, a 25 caliber pistol, $20,000, and 12 grams of cocaine.
The Montego Bay Casino was robbed just before Valentine's Day. Police say Elbert Woodson was an accomplice along with a woman.
Investigators say after taking off with the cash, they led police on a high speed chase. The suspect vehicle ended up crashing, Woodson and a woman were arrested, Vera escaped.
The U.S. Marshals say Vera is a violent man. He's charged with armed robbery, and grand larceny. " This is a very dangerous individual and this is somebody we don't want in our community. "
Vera is awaiting extradition to Nevada.
It's reported this is the first time in 75 years a casino is robbed in Wendover, Nevada.
