TUCSON - The felines are free! After three months of treatment and isolation, cats at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona who showed signs of feline calicivirus are healthy and available for adoption.
In upholding its mission to do everything possible to save lives, the HSSA quarantined its entire cat population in a makeshift hospital following an outbreak of the calicivirus upper respiratory infection in November.
Because of the HSSA's forward-thinking leadership and the generosity of grantors and donors, 72 cats received diligent, compassionate care.
Among the most amazing transformations was that of Marvin. Abandoned at the HSSA in rapidly declining health, Marvin weighed only five pounds and was terrified. Had Marvin landed at a shelter without a progressive treatment approach, he would have almost certainly been euthanized. But staff at the HSSA didn't give up. Marvin received medical attention, nourishment, love and encouragement.
Thanks to his many friends and fans, Marvin thrived and has since doubled in size. He's a lucky cat who has stolen many hearts and is ready to be home at last.
To celebrate, the HSSA is hosting 'Home At Last' this weekend. This two-day adoption party funded by PetSmart Charities will include:
·Free felines at all locations
And join us at the Companions for Life Center for:
· Wine glass with kitten charm free to first 60 adopters
· A 'Home at Last' starter pack with a litter box, scoop, litter and toy for each adopter
· Food Truck Roundup on Saturday
· Free mini-donuts and kitty cupcakes on Sunday
· Free kids crafts, games and glitter tattoos
The festivities will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at the HSSA Companions for Life Center, 3465 E. Kleindale Rd. (around the corner from the HSSA shelter).
