TUCSON - The streetcar wires have the potential to put 750 volts through your body, so the city is reminding people of the danger.
750 volts can kill a person, and Shellie Gin, project manager of the Streetcar Project said people need to take precaution at all times when around the lines.
If anyone needs to work around the lines, for example, landscaping or hanging up signs at nearby businesses, they need to get a special permit after going through a training program with the city.
"This is more the focus on safety. It's a new type of system. (With) this type of system: if you touch it or touch it with a piece of metal that touches you then you can actually kill yourself with it, so we are talking to as many people as we can and educating the public so that they know what they do before they actually come down here," said Ginn.
Sections of the line will go live over the next several weeks.
