MESA, Ariz. (AP) - A man already serving prison time for two rapes has been accused of the 1980 murder of a Mesa teenager.
Mesa police say DNA testing linked 48-year-old Angel Chris Bello to the strangulation of Tina Reed.
The 14-year-old girl was found dead in a muddy construction ditch near Dobson Ranch on Jan. 21, 1980.
Although Bello was 14 at the time of the killing, prosecutors say he'll be tried as an adult.
The Maricopa County Attorney's Office indicted Bello on one count of first-degree murder and he entered a not guilty plea at his July 22 arraignment.
Bello is in the midst of a 17-year prison sentence for raping Chandler real estate agents in 1986 and 1987. Authorities say he would have been up for parole in 18 months.
