TUCSON - Water has not flowed through the Santa Cruz in a long time in Tucson. Now Rio Nuevo says it supports the concept of having water flowing in the Santa Cruz, saying it could help with vegetation and could bring tourism to the area.
The group is looking to see if it's feasible. The Pima County Regional Flood Control District Division Manager says one of the concepts could have water running on the Santa Cruz from around 29th Street to Speedway.
The water could be only a couple feet wide, and come from a water treatment plant.
Chief hydrologist for Tucson Water, Wally Wilson, says at this point it is only an idea and several things need to be looked at.
"We have to look at specifics of any kind of regulating permitting, we have to design infrastructure to deliver water, that has not been done, what the rates are for the water itself and availability with the existing facilities we have, we may have to supplement it from another facility," said Wilson.
