TUCSON - On Saturday, an 18-year-old Mexican national was arrested for attempting to smuggle almost $91,000 worth of marijuana through the Douglas Port of Entry, according to officials.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred Agua Prieta, Sonora resident Roberto Acosta-Alvarado for inspection of his vehicle as he attempted to enter the U.S., according to a CBP news release.
Officers used a drug-sniffing dog that alerted to the presence of drugs, and during a thorough inspection, found 114 packages of marijuana hidden throughout the vehicle and in the spare tire.
The 108 pounds of marijuana that was found was processed for seizure, and Acosta-Alvarado was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations, the release states.
