PHOENIX - On April 26th, the DEA will hold another prescription drug take-back day. The service is free and anonymous.
This event is held because unused medications in homes can be a public health and safety concern, because they are highly susceptible to accidental ingestion, theft, misuse, and abuse.
In Arizona, 1 in 6 youth said they abuse prescription drugs.
DEA Special Agent in Charge Doug Coleman says "We know that young people consider controlled- substance prescription drugs, like Vicodin, to be a safer way to get high, but they couldn't be more wrong. By removing unwanted prescription drugs from their homes, the public helps prevent experimentation, addiction, overdose and even death."
