I am proud to say that I am a native Tucsonan, a member of an Arizona ranching family that homesteaded outside of Globe, Arizona in the late 1800's. I grew up around horses, cattle and cowboys and every once in awhile you might catch a hint of a cowboy twang in my speech.
By far the finest thing that I have ever done in my life is adopt two beautiful girls as a single parent. These girls are now 19 and 22 and they continue to surprise and delight me. We have 3 cats and a 9&1/2 pound dog named Greta (as a puppy she had thin painted looking eyebrows like Greta Garbo). These critters make our family complete.
My work experience has been interesting and diverse. At 20, I began working at Gordo's Mexican restaurant and stayed there for 20 years. Next, I was a therapeutic foster parent for 4 years and during that time we welcomed 6 children into our home. I am currently the manager of Harlow Gardens Nursery and have been with the Harlow family for 12 years. In my spare time, I am a working artist doing oil paintings and various types of mural work for clients throughout the city.
Gardening has always been more than a source of pleasure to me; it has been a marvelous source of renewal. Before working at Harlow Gardens, most of my gardening experience was a seed planter. I always planted large flower beds and did some vegetable planting from seed. I have always loved digging in the dirt and planting. I really love the job I have at Harlow Gardens because as I have told people many times, I share my office with birds, bees and butterflies. What more could I ask?
