Deputies searching for armed robber

TUCSON - Deputies are looking for a man who robbed the U.S. Bank inside a Safeway Monday morning. The armed robbery happened at the intersection of Thornydale Road and Linda Vista boulevard at about 10:30 a.m.

Deputy Tom Peine said the suspect walked to the counter, implied that he had a weapon and demanded cash. The suspect also had a package a note that led investigators to believe it may be explosive.

The suspect reportedly left the store on foot and with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Authorities evacuated the store and called for the bomb squad to examine the package, "it was determined that it was a harmless item but was obviously left behind to delay law enforcement's response in this investigation," he said.

And it worked because the suspect managed to get away. He's been described as Asian or Hispanic with a beard, wearing a UA baseball cap,and a green military style jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
