TUCSON - Two brothers facing Drive-By Shooting charges are being held on $150,000 bonds.
Around 6 p.m. Thursday, 2 vehicles got in a confrontation near Campbell Avenue and Irvington Road. Both shot at each other, striking a 9-year-old girl in one of the vehicles. Carlos and Oscar Santa Maria drove away and were arrested later that night.
The brothers made their Initial Appearances in court Friday.
Some of the Santa Marias' family members were in court Friday night. They declined speaking on camera, but they said the brothers were the victims of aggressive driving. They said somebody in the other vehicle pulled out a gun first, and the brothers acted in self defense.
They would not say how and where the men were arrested and why they drove away. They also did not clarify who was driving and who was shooting.
The driver of the other vehicle has not been identified. The Department of Child Safety placed the children with family members. Police said charges against the other driver are pending.
The 9-year-old was not seriously hurt.
