LAS VEGAS, NV - Peter Kelly scored one goal and assisted another within two minutes to help lead FC Tucson to a 2-1 playoff win against the LA Misioneros Saturday night. It's the first playoff win in club history.
With Tucson on the attack in the 28th minute, the ball came to the top of the box where Kelly was waiting. He fired a shot inside the left post to give FC Tucson a 1-0 lead. Ricardo Velazco attempted a shot that was blocked by LA, but Kelly was in the perfect position.
Moments later, Kelly crossed the ball perfectly to Christian Volesky who gave Tucson its final goal. Kelly attacked from the left side and beat the LA keeper on the cross, leaving Volesky all alone on the right side.
LA scored in the 49th minute to bring the match to within one, but Tucson held. Billy Thompson had an excellent game in goal, stopping a penalty kick in stoppage time to give Tucson the 2-1 victory.
According to FC Tucson, this is the first playoff win in club history.
