Fire at senior living community forces some residents to evacuate

PIMA COUNTY - Northwest Fire is investigating a fire at a senior living community.

Capt. Adam Goldberg said the fire started in a linen closet just before 4 a.m. Friday at the Amber Lights Senior Living Community on the 6200 block of N. Montebella Rd. near Orange Grove Road and La Cholla Boulevard. The sprinkler activated, triggering an alarm that notified officials. Several residents also called 911 after seeing smoke. The sprinkler system put out most of the flames and fire crews had it under control soon after arriving.

Six residents evacuated themselves from the building. No injuries were reported. Water flooded the basement and crews are assessing any potential damage to the electrical system. Electricity was out in a small part of the 400-unit complex.
