TUCSON - Approximately 70 people were evacuated from a motel on the southwest side after a fire, overnight.
Tucson Fire Dept. received multiple 911 calls from the 1200 block of South Freeway.
Firefighters found heavy black smoke coming from a first floor hotel room at Regal Inn.
Fire crews forced the door open and flames were reported by many bystanders to be fifteen feet in height.
Tucson Police were also on the scene and evacuated guests from nearby rooms.
One adult, one child and two dogs had been occupying the room when the fire started but were able to make it out safely. Utilities were controlled by the ladder company.
Fire crews were able to contain the fire to that one room, but at least five other rooms have smoke damage. No one was hurt and Red Cross assisted the occupants of the room where the fire occurred.
The cause is under investigation.
