TUCSON - Some voters have already seen the first political attack ad for the 2014 election.
The National Republican Congressional Committee spent $3,600 for commercials on Southern Arizona cable stations.
They criticize Democratic Rep. Ron Barber of Arizona Congressional District 2.
The ads say Barber "fits right in" in Washington D.C.
Barber said he has not seen the ad and is more worried about real issues like sequestration.
"I think people are tired of that," Barber said. "They just want me to go to work, and that's what I'm trying to do."
The ad also says Barber voted to allow congressman to fly first class. Barber said he never has or will fly first class with tax dollars.
"People I represent didn't send me to Washington to be in first class," he said. "They sent me to be in Washington to be in coach and to work on their behalf, and that's who I am."
Tyler Mott with the Pima County Republican Party said the ad made a good point.
"It is a shot across his bow," he said. "The congressman is not doing anything, really, to stop wasteful spending."
The local Republicans are not in contact with the NRCC, but Mott says it makes sense for them to invest in the district.
"There's a good reason for why they chose this race," Mott said, "and it's because we have a very good shot at replacing Congressman Barber in 2014."
District 2 has slightly more registered Republicans than Democrats. There are about 137,000 Republicans and 134,000 Democrats.
Barber barely beat his Republican challenger, Martha McSally, in November.
