TUCSON - Flagstaff won't be using chemically treated wastewater to make snow for an upcoming festival.
City public works section head Mike O'Connor says the city will not use the wastewater to cover San Francisco Street for Dew Downtown Flagstaff next month because it didn't apply in time for a state permit.
O'Connor says the city also was concerned about controlling runoff into storm sewers from snow made with wastewater.
But for the second consecutive year, Flagstaff will use snow guns and potable water to make snow for San Francisco Street.
Last year, the city needed 300,000 gallons of potable water to make the snow.
O'Connor tells the Arizona Daily Sun that the amount of potable water used is a fraction of the city's total daily supply.
