TUCSON - The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for southern Arizona until 9 PM tonight. This includes Metro Tucson, Nogales, Sierra Vista, Douglas and Oracle.
A low pressure trough interacts with ample moisture this morning and afternoon, bringing a chance of widespread thunderstorms according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. Conditions are favorable for any storm to produce heavy rainfall over an inch. This will create flash flooding problems for area streams and washes. Storms fade to the isolated variety after midnight.
If you do encounter flooded roadways, remember: turn around, don't drown. It only takes 1-2 feet of water to move a vehicle. Be especially careful driving at night, where water depth and roadways are hard to see.
