A former U of A Football standout is now facing felony charges.
According to court documents uncovered by the News 4 Tucson Investigators, Max Zendejas has been indicted on charges of theft and criminal damage.
An indictment by the Arizona Attorney General's Office alleges Zendejas took property belonging to the University of Arizona. Among the items, a walk-in refrigerator, compressors, kitchen sinks, ceiling fans, and other equipment worth more than $25,000.
The indictment also charges Zendajas with recklessly defacing UA property worth more than $10,000.
All of this stems from a failed restaurant operated by Zendajas. The restaurant, Zendejas 13, was located in a building owned by the UA across from Arizona Stadium.
The Attorney General's Office tells the News 4 Tucson Investigators, the crimes happened after Zendejas was evicted following a dispute. The restaurant closed last month.
Zendejas faces arraignment next week.
Zendejas was an Arizona Wildcat from 1982 until 1985, and was named M.V.P. in 1985. He also played in the N.F.L. for the Washington Redskins and Green Bay Packers.
