Food Network not renewing Paula Deen's contract

NEW YORK - Food Network has announced they will not renew Paula Deen's contract, after she admitted to using racial slurs, then failed to show up for a "Today" show interview Friday.

The media outlet fired the host after she posted three videos on YouTube Friday afternoon, in which she apologized for using "inappropriate and hurtful language." She also apologized to Matt Lauer for not attending the scheduled interview with him.

However, the 66-year-old has been involved in scandal since details were revealed from a May 17 deposition, where she confessed to using foul language, particularly the N-word.

"I would like to thank The Food Network for 11 great years. Because of the gift The Food Network gave me, I have had the pleasure of being allowed into so many homes across the country and meeting people who have shared with me the most touching and personal stories," Deen told TODAY.

She went on to explain her absence, and express her grief for the inappropriate statements she made.

"I want to apologize to everybody for the wrong that I've done, and I want to learn and grow from this. Inappropriate, hurtful language is totally, totally unacceptable," she stated in one of the videos. "I've made plenty of mistakes along the way, but I beg you, my children, my team, my fans, my partners, I beg for your forgiveness. Please forgive me for the mistakes that I've made."

The U.S. District deposition transcript, which was filed Monday, shows Deen denying any recent use of the N-word, but states she did admit to using it in past instances in the 1980's.

Deen also has a past lawsuit filed against her and her brother Bubba Hiers. A former manager of a restaurant owned by the siblings claimed she and other employees dealt with a hostile work environment. Court records state her brother denied the accusations.

After the Food Network made the announcement, reaction on their Facebook page stayed in favor of Deen, while a few supported the channel's choice.
