SOUTH TUCSON - A long time South Tucson employee is facing criminal charges for credit card theft. News 4 Tucson was the first to tell you about the investigation that led detectives to a finance employee. That employee has since resigned.
Sylvia Salomon was a 22 year employee at city hall. She was a supervisor in the Finance Department.
City Manager Luis Gonzales says they are disturbed and saddened. "We were looking at the some of the past audits, looking at some of the current ongoing audits we have and we found a couple of discrepancies that were appearing."
The South Tucson Police Department conducted the investigation. News 4 Tucson Crime Trackers obtained the 18 page report. The City Manager says, "We're talking about an actual theft of about $1,500."
The report shows three Visa charges to a Sprint store, a Hyatt hotel stay in Phoenix, JCPenny, and Mereles Auto Care Parts-Brake pads.
Gonzales says that's not all the investigation revealed. "There's some money missing around the same scenario approximately $70,000."
Salomon is not being charged with that, she's only facing six counts credit card theft. We went to her house, spoke with her son, and left our business card for Salomon to call us to get her side of the story.
She's scheduled to be arraigned on June 10th, in Justice Court.
