Free swim safety event for the entire family

TUCSON - Tucson families have a chance to learn all about the ABC's of swimming and safety around water at a free event hosted by the Tucson Fire Department.

The special focus of the event will be to raise awareness of pediatric drowning.

A number of fun activities are planned to give kids fun while learning safety. Those include the appearance of Alex the Ambulance from Southwest Ambulance, a 40-foot climbing wall from the National Guard, fire apparatus displays and free Eegee's.

There will also be vendor booths with all kinds of swim safety information.

The Greater Tucson Fire Foundation, The Save A Life Foundation, the YMCA, Patio Pools and Spas, and the Sunshine Swim School will all have booths. There will also be drawings for pool related items.

Drowning is the second leading cause of death and injury to children in Arizona, despite a plethora of events to raise awareness of water safety.

The free event is sponsored by Tucson Old Pueblo Credit Union and will be held Saturday, June 16, from 9:00am-1:00pm at their East Broadway branch, 9725 E. Broadway.
