TUCSON - Flying insects and an extra order of grease are couple of items on the menu for the Pima County Health Department in this week's edition of Kitchen Cops.
The Sonic Drive-In at at 2222 E. Broadway was cited for critical and non-critical violations. A table-mounted can opener was seen encrusted with a black substance on it. Vent covers in the kitchen had dust build-up. Grease and food debris was found along the cookline and in between equipment. Tile was damaged throughout the restaurant.
With the critical violation corrected during the inspection, Sonic Drive In was given a "Good" rating. Director of Operations Stuart Carey said, "All violations were immediately corrected, including re-tiling the entire facility's tile floor."
The Fry's Food Store at at 8080 S. Houghton Road received one critical violation. Multiple flies were found in the deli prep area and on food. The inspector requested that area be treated by licensed pest control company. A dumpster at the store was also observed soiled with food debris and more flies present.
The critical violation was corrected during the inspection, earning Fry's Food deli a "Good" rating. Other inspections were conducted at the store with the market and bakery each receiving "Excellent" ratings. Fry's Food Stores released this statement: "We appreciate this being brought to our attention so we could respond immediately and address the issue. Once noted, Fry's contacted its licensed pest control operator to handle the situation, which has now been resolved. The safety of our customers always comes first."
