TUCSON - Southwest Gas crews are working to fix a gas line break in midtown.
It began just after 11 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 800 block of North Alvernon Way, near Speedway Boulevard, Southwest Gas spokeswoman Libby Howell said.
A contractor digging in the area hit a 1- inch gas line, causing the break, Howell said.
Twenty three people were evacuated from the complex as a precaution, Howell added.
There is no word on how long it will take to fix the line.
