TUCSON - A 66-year-old grandmother suffered minor injuries Wednesday night after crashing her car into a northwest side dry cleaning store.
It happened just before 7pm at the Super Cleaners at 9725 N. Thornydale, near Linda Vista Blvd.
Captain Adam Goldberg from Northwest Fire tells News 4 Tucson the woman was pulling into a parking space when she inadvertently hit the gas instead of the brake. She had her seven-year-old grandson in the backseat, but he was not hurt. They were both wearing their seatbelts.
The woman was taken to a local hospital, but should be okay. The boy was picked up by his mother.
"Nobody was hurt at least with major injuries so that's good," says Dean Howard who works at Desert Sports and Fitness next door. "But it was the most bizarre thing I've ever been that close to."
The dry cleaner was closed at the time, but the owner was inside. Luckily the owner didn't suffer any injuries.
Crews towed the car out of the store at about 9pm Wednesday night. The store owner tells News 4 Tucson they will most likely temporarily operate out of another Super Cleaners location until repairs are made.
All other stores in the shopping center remain open for business as usual.
