TUCSON - Whipping winds return for the weekend.
A storm system will move through Northern Arizona this afternoon kicking up the winds region wide. Gusts to 35mph in Tucson will be possible this afternoon with gusts over 40mph expected south and east of the metro.
A Wind Advisory in effect from 11am to 7pm for the wind prone areas in Cochise, Graham and Greenlee Counties. Strong winds will make for difficult driving conditions and areas of blowing dust.
The high wind and low humidity will also combine for extreme fire danger. A Red Flag Warning is also in place for Southeast Arizona as any fires that do develop will see rapid and erratic growth.
A secondary system will keep winds on the breezy side for Sunday afternoon as well, especially for areas east of Tucson. Cochise County will likely see gusts between 30-35mph to round out the weekend.
Slightly cooler temperatures in the 80s will also accompany this system with a forecast high of 87 degrees in Tucson this afternoon. Mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies with a few virga showers will also be possible but because we are so dry no rain is expected to make it to the ground.
The mid to upper 80s remain in the forecast well into next week. Check out your True View 4 extended forecast here.
