Gusty winds and dry air combine for Red Flag Warning

TUCSON - Gusty winds and dry air make for high fire danger as we head into the weekend.

As a cold front moves off to our north our temperatures go down but our wind speeds pick up starting this afternoon, according to Meteorologist John Patrick. Tucson will see gusts between 25-30mph with even stronger winds in Graham, Greenlee and Cochise Counties where gusts could reach 40mph.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect from noon to 8pm this evening for a high fire danger mainly for areas south and east of Tucson. A Fire Weather Watch is in effect for Saturday as another round of gusty, dry winds is in the forecast.

Tucson should see daytime highs barely crack into the low 80s this afternoon under plenty of sunshine. Slightly cooler air filters into the desert southwest this weekend dropping highs back into the mid 70s, right where we should be for late March.
