TUCSON - Most of us got a little break from the Monsoon today that is unless you were near the International Border.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms in Cochise County this afternoon prompted a Flash Flood Warning around 4pm, according to Meteorologist John Patrick. Heavy rain falling in the vicinity of the Monument Fire burn area quickly filled up surrounding washes and canyons. It was reported that 2-3 feet of water filled up Ash Canyon of the Huachuca Mountains. There is still an Areal Flood Advisory for Southwest Cochise County until 7:15pm this evening.

Tucson not only got a break from the Monsoon today but the heat as well. Officially at TIA we topped 94 which is well below average for early July. High pressure sets back up in the four corners region and cranks the heat and storm chances back up by this weekend. Isolated storms chances Friday will turn into scattered chances by the start of your weekend. Over the next several days Saturday is looking like the best day to see storms reach the Tucson metro. The triple digits also return by Saturday and stick around for the remainder of the forecast period.

As for Monsoon rainfall totals so far this year we've been off to a great start recording 1.18" at TIA from June 15 - July 5. Through about today we only average 0.30" putting us well above normal these first few weeks of the Monsoon.
