Heavy rain threat heading into weekend

TUCSON - Elevated storm potential over the next 72 hours.

Ample moisture interacts with a mid-level disturbance over Sonora to develop numerous storms late this afternoon, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. Expect storms to linger into the nighttime hours. Locally heavy rainfall is possible, along with the threat of flash flooding near the International Border.

Monsoon 2014 looks active this weekend, as scattered storms are possible. Most of southern Arizona sees 0.50-1.50" rain between now and Sunday, with isolated higher amounts expected. Highs through the weekend reach the low to mid 90's.

Drier air aloft swings in next week, shutting down storm chances as early as Tuesday. Triple digit heat returns the middle of next week as well.
