Held Captive: Arraignment for mom, stepdad

TUCSON - The husband and wife accused of holding 3 girls captive faces a judge Friday.

Sophia and Fernando Richter appeared for their arraignment via video in Pima County Superior Court.

Fernando looked up to the camera with a visible black eye. In addition to facing child abuse and kidnapping charges, Fernando also is looking at additional assault charges.

While in custody at the Pima County Jail, sheriffs say Richter assaulted a corrections officer.

Sophia Richter was wearing black and white stripes indicating she's being housed in a special unit.

The judge assigned the two court-appointed attorneys and scheduled another court appearance for 9 a.m. on Jan. 14.
