High fire danger, mountain thunder threat today

TUCSON - The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from 11 AM until 7 PM today. This includes all lower elevation locales in southern Arizona.

A cold front north of the state produces 30-40 MPH wind gusts this afternoon, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. Isolated pockets of blowing dust may occur along I-10 near Picacho Peak and the Willcox Playa. Enough moisture exists for isolated mountain storms east of Tucson today.

Highs this afternoon reach triple digits for the 24th time this year in Tucson.

Winds ease off by Thursday, as Tucson is slated to see its first day sans triple digit heat since May 29th. 100's and sunshine are on tap for the first weekend of Summer. Hottest day out of the next 7 comes Monday afternoon, with a forecast high of 103°.
