Hittin' the Trails 4 You: Four hikes where you can beat the heat

TUCSON - Before you completely throw in the towel for your trek, we've got some "cool" hikes to consider.

Mt. Lemmon's Aspen Trail starts at the Marshall Gulch Trailhead. While the trail is easy, it varies. Parts can be narrow, other areas wide open with awesome views of the desert floors.

Another Mt. Lemmon favorite is the Wildnerness of Rocks Trail, which also starts at the Marshall Gulch Trailhead. Less than a half mile in, the forest opens to a dramatic landscape of rock formations.

From Mt. Lemmon to Madera Canyon, where temperatures can be 15 degrees cooler than Tucson. A good hike can be found along the Bog Spring Trail, which is of moderate difficulty. At times you'll see some water, especially near the Kent Spring. This hike is a 1,600 foot elevation gain, 5 miles round trip.

Just up the road from the Bog Spring Trail is another marvelous Madera Canyon destination: the Super Trail.

The Madera Canyon birds add to the serenity. You can spot them easily with a list of different species that frequent the area, provided for free at the trailhead.
