Hittin' the Trails 4 You: Sabino Canyon Junior Ranger Programs

TUCSON - The Coronado National Forest, Santa Catalina Ranger District, will present Junior Ranger Programs beginning Saturday, December 8 at the Sabino Canyon Visitor Center, 5700 N. Sabino Canyon Road. The programs, which will be presented at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., are open to kindergarten through sixth grade children and their parents. Participants are encouraged to meet in front of the visitor center prior to the session.

Each one-hour program begins with a presentation orienting children and parents to the Sonoran Desert flora and fauna, the natural environment, safety in the desert, and what to expect while hiking. Participants will then hike the ¼ mile Bajada Loop Nature Trail. Children will receive a packet of information on desert ecology and will discuss plant and animal survival strategies. Upon completion of the program, Junior Ranger certificates and patches will be awarded.

Programs will continue each Saturday through March. Self-guided programs are also available upon request. Please call (520) 749-8700 for more information.
