Hittin' the Trails 4 You: The Box Camp Trail

MOUNT LEMMON - It's called the Box Camp Trail, which you can access either at Sabino Canyon or the trailhead atop Mt. Lemmon.

If you start up the mountain, the first thing you'll notice are flat, rocky areas that serve as front row seating to stunning views.

Another prominent view: burned trees from the Aspen Fire. However, the flora is coming back and it's better than ever. Hiker Gladys Seery said, "There's so much shade and there's so much green. There's so many ferns that after this amount of time it's still beautiful".

Wildflowers and butterflies add to the ambiance & don't be surprised to see a few deer wandering the woods.

Trail conditions are good, which helps. If you're brave enough, it's about a 10 mile hike one way. For those looking for a shorter hike, stop off at Box Spring.

About 2.5 miles after the trailhead, you'll reach a fallen tree and cairn. Take a right at the cairn to reach the spring. Just don't expect a ton of water, as the spring and stream is seasonal.

Remember, what comes down must go back up. You're gaining a little elevation on the way back to the trailhead, so plan for a moderate 5 mile round trip hike if you search for Box Spring.
