Hittin' the Trails 4 You: The Wilderness of Rocks Trail

MT. LEMMON - Marshall Gulch is where the path to the Wilderness of Rocks Trails begins.

This 1.2 mile trail segment takes you over the river and through the woods. Hiker Carole Dutcher said, "You're going to see a lot of burned trees, unfortunately. But there are also a lot of big, beautiful, live trees and a lot of new growth, which is encouraging".

Along the Marshall Gulch Trail, keep your eyes open for a variety of wildflowers and several frog sightings.

About a half-hour later, the Marshall Gulch Trail ends and the Wilderness of Rocks Trail starts. Hiker Katie White said, "From the top of Marshall Gulch, it goes downhill about 1,300 feet".

The Wilderness of Rocks Trail is a "high-reward" hike. Within the first 0.1 mile, you're surrounded by free-standing rock formations. This all leads you to a dramatic rocky landscape that awaits less than a half-mile away.

"The rock outcroppings are phenomenal. They just look other-worldly I guess. There's just something big and awesome about them", said Dutcher.

Hiker Chris Contos added, "It kind of reminds me of Prescott. It reminds me of Granite Mountain".

This hike has a northern Arizona feeling, without the long drive.

"It's amazing this is so close to the city and that's what makes Tucson special", said Contos.
