TUCSON - Starting in civilization, the Ventana Canyon Trail climbs as far up as 4,300 feet to a place called "The Window". Most, however, take a shorter hike to Maiden Pools.
"Its about 2.5 miles to the Maiden Pools, which is where most people think of for their main destination", said hiker Gary Cook.
Hikers say it can get pretty steep as you get near the pools, but the consensus is the Ventana Canyon Trail is a moderate hike.
If you do the hike, you'll be treated to some great bird watching. Wildflowers also flank the trek to Maiden Pools.
"It was a good workout. Started at 7:30 AM so don't go out without a couple liters of water", said Cook.
Don't forget the water this weekend. The Ventana Canyon Trail may be short, but gains about 1,200 feet in elevation on the way up.
